A better update.

Yesterday we accomplished the following:

  • Trent added a new keyboard part over the end of “Headhunter.”
  • DJ, Ted, Trent and I recorded the group vocals for “Headhunter” and “Charge The Fields.”
  • Sara, who is Ted’s wife, came in later in the evening to record a short speaking part over the album’s intoduction.

If you’re wondering what group vocals consist of, it’s when a group of people shout lyrics in unison in order to emphasize the vocal line. For example, Finnish metal band Children of Bodom uses the technique often, and the results can be seen in this video about 2 minutes in:

Saturday in the Studio.

I finally get to go into the studio today and see what it’s all about. Like I said before, all the click tracks are done, so Ted has his drums set up and is going to spend the day getting his parts recorded.

Yesterday DJ, Trent, and I hung out while Ted was working and spent the evening writing music for the fun of it, then we discussed a few ideas for the album over Taco Johns. A good jam will always get the creative forces moving.

I’ll have a video or two up tomorrow, along with a few pictures. I’d have them up tonight, but I’m going to work straight from the studio and won’t be home until after midnight.

Greetings, metalheads.

My name is Adam, and I am the bass player/lead vocalist for the progressive metal band Suspension Of. My other bandmates consist of Darron (rhythm guitar), Trent (lead guitar/keyboards), and Ted (drums/percussion). More detailed member bios should be up within the coming week.

The main purpose of this blog is to cover the band’s efforts during the process of recording our first studio demo, Her Hair Sways To The Authentic Sounds Of Death. Other newsworthy items such as practice updates, show descriptions, and other general information will be included. Various opinions may be expressed, but for the most part this blog will NOT be used as a private journal and/or soapbox.

So, on to the first update.

The demo is being recorded at a house studio owned by another local metal band, The Fifth Sun. For the past few weeks, the other guys had been working the click tracks and last week they finally finished. For those unfamiliar, a click track is basically a computerized metronome beat that a drummer listens to while recording the drum beats. I unfortunately missed out on the process because I ended up having to work every night they went out to work on them.

Now this weekend, Ted is supposed to into the studio to spend a few days recording his drums so the rest of us can record our parts over them.

Also, last weekend we played a small show in a fellow band’s basement. I’ll post on that tomorrow.
